The 2010 Teen Read Week Theme was "Books With Beat." The Provo City Library chose to have a poetry contest called Tweet Your Beat and below are the entries in this contest!
Simplicity
The world, in a constant whirl
Cities always on the move
Stop and smell the roses one said
Without true rest, a mind cannot improve
Dismiss fiscal and personal thoughts
The little things we take for granted in this life,
They are often of much more worth.
Joyfully toss your devices and material items,
Decide what honestly serves as substantial to you
It’s this season of thanks which deserves our attention
I certainly hope you’re of the same view.

Songs of Silence
There's something disquieting
About an empty space.
No one is there
To cover up the sounds of silence
And make then disappear.
The Silence comes slowly
It creeps along, with a lilting tune in it's darkness.
A low hum, C sharp
The prelude.
The high melodies
Of the vibrating air.
F and A flat.
The invisible orchestra
Strikes up the song
Grabbing the melody
And throwing it into the sky.
Changing it,
Harmonizing with it,
Making it new.
But the Silence dwindles
With leaves in the trees,
A trickle of water,
And the beauty breaks
The haunting melody slows
And ends in one last fading strain.
D sharp.

Once Upon a Time,
Happily Ever After,
A prince, love; what else matters?
A dress, a rose,
A shoe that fits,
Asleep for years,
And a ballroom lit.

My book beats,
Like every book.
It makes me want to keep reading,
So I can't stop.
Like a unique flower in the desert,
It's a book with beat.
